Tom Peters, Ph.D.

Tom Peters was raised on farm in southern Minnesota. Recipient of the 1977 National Science Student Award.  Recipient of the U.S. Naval Science Award and the National youth Science Camp recipient.   He completed his undergraduate at the University of Wisconsin, under Dr. Art Pope and graduate degrees at the University of Minnesota under Dr. Richard Goodrich and Dr. Gene Allen. On staff at the USDA Sheep Experiment Station in 1980.  Taught at University of Wisconsin- River Falls 1985-86.

39 Years in private industry (consultation practice)as a nutritionist and management specialist. Animal behavior, cattle intake programing and cattle intake prediction, building designs for finishing cattle and cattle environment are specifically of high attention.  Tom has presented talks and papers around the world and has held two world Cattle Housing Symposiums. Besides cattle nutrition and management daily consulting- methane digestion and bio-gas generation from cow manure are items of weekly work. Owner of Superior Attitude Livestock Nutrition, LLC-  a consulting firm that deals in nutrition and management and growth improvements. Clients in 12- U.S. states, Turkey, Ireland, Brazil and Canada.  During his career he has consulted on 5 continents. Member of Camelot consulting- a firm that advises beef industry companies. Advisory for several beef allied-industry companies. Co-owner of BetterFed Beef, a ranch to rail high quality-grade, branded beef company utilizing Crossbred steers. Partner in a 5,000 plus cow dairy in Wisconsin since 2004. Tom is intensely involved in beef and dairy crossbreeding projects, originating at his dairy since 2004.  Dr. Peters was inducted into the “Legends of Nutrition” hall of fame at Plains Nutrition Conference in 2026.   One of 17 Consulting Nutritionists in 53 years of the society to be inducted.  This honor was one of Tom’s highest honors!

Tom’s motto’s on life has been “knowledge that is not shared will soon perish” and “the joy IS the journey”. He feels honored to improve cattle production and beef quality.  Tom was the driving force in the USDA Grading change- eliminating B maturity carcasses from Select grading standards.

Tom has been published/written in 160+ journals, trade publications and articles.  His proudest accomplishments include being married for 44 years to Lori Peters.  Tom considers to be a man who “out punted his coverage” when fortunate enough to marry Lori.  Lori and Tom have two grown children -who champion education and knowledge and hard work.  Blessed with 2 grandchildren and praying for more -if it was meant to be!

Tom was president of his local school board for 9 years and considers civic engagement an important responsibility of all U.S. citizens.

Tom has “partnered” and adored Black Labrador dogs in his daily life.  These black labs travel with Tom EVERY DAY to clients around the U.S..

Black Labradors named Olaf, Hubert and recently Karl have traveled daily during Tom’s career.

Tom enjoys Cross Country Ski racing- completing 25 American Birkebeiner races as of this year.  His passion is canoeing the Voyageurs canoe routes in Canada and the Arctic. Canoeing into the Arctic circle during the last few summers.  Tom enjoys restoring and collecting antique wooden boats and antique outboard motors- a lifelong collection.
